With trees in full blossom, birds singing, warmer and longer days, there is an air of much-needed positivity shedding light on what is still a very difficult time for many of us around the globe.
Spring is a time for inspiration, leaping forward with the drive to start new projects with a new sense of energy, it also gives us an opportunity to look back on 2022 so far and determine whether, as a business, we are successfully achieving our new and updated vision of Creating Healthier Urban Spaces in Harmony with Nature.
Today’s blog looks back on some of the highlights of 2022 Q1 and, of course, looks forward to what will be an exciting year ahead!
We started the year with our #Adapttochange campaign; highlighting the need for collaboration to empower measures to help mitigate climate change. A dedicated webinar was hosted by the Landscape Institute, and another with Urban Design London was supported by our new video detailing how we, as a business, are adapting to support more healthy lives for all.
Our education platform continued, not just with an array of CPDs to a variety of clients, but we began our student programme with in-person practical sessions at Myerscough, Inverness, Sheffield and UWE universities.
We successfully unveiled our new collection of updated and improved CAD tree pit and SuDS drawings and the relaunch of StormForm as part of ArborFlow and our #MultiFunctionalSuDS Campaign.
“The postgraduate students loved Howard’s talk. His enthusiasm was infectious! And he was adept at getting the students to consider the real-world challenges of siting urban trees. They asked lots of questions which is a sure sign that they enjoyed his talk and wanted to find out more in relation to their own projects. I’m already looking to invite Howard again next year!”
Further events included the Specifi meet the buyer programme, which saw the GreenBlue Urban team travel to London, Bristol and Edinburgh. The much-anticipated FutureBuild event, the well-established exhibition hosted at the Excel Centre in London gave us a further platform to showcase the newly launched Reluminate Off-Grid Street light.
The Marketing team were delighted at the success of the first-panel webinar of the year, introducing Hen Abbott, Hannah Purkis, Chryse Tinsley and John Brewington all highlighting the need for early planning and collaboration to Simplify SuDS – As well as the Carrot and the Stick, click the link to watch again!
Podcasts from Johnny Phillips and soon to follow George Warren provide a more intimate approach to Stormwater Management. In contrast, we headed to Margate for the visit of Lord Deben, Chair of the Climate Change Committee, visiting our Cool Towns pilot site alongside Kent County Council – even making the local news – discover more here!
So, it has certainly been a busy time so far for all at GBU –
With the recent UK Landscape Barometer reporting that the year started with a 71% increase in enquiries, this has put GBU in good stead for March 2022 being one of the most successful on record,(including pre covid) with project wins including Queens Gardens, Maritime City in Hull, Lloyd Street, Llandudno, Tindal Square in Chelmsford, Wapping Wharf in Bristol to name a few.
This year to date over 3000 tonnes of plastic have been saved from landfill!
Recent Arborsystem installations include Runcorn Station Plaza, Albert Embankment for the Tideway Tunnel project, a garden at a private residence in Chelsea and even Lusail City infrastructure in Qatar – ready for the World Cup!
